Many of the photos I rescue are not identified. I call these orphan photographs. Even though I don't know who the people are in the photos, they could be someone's ancestor.
TIP: Before I remove photographs from an antique album, I photograph the album covers and inside pages in its intact and original form. That way I can place the photos back or, if the album itself cannot be saved, I have a record of the original placement of the photos. This can be a good clue for identifying the subjects.
